About the project

Aberystwyth Social Clubs (ASC) operates from Portland Road in Aberystwyth.
The service provides group and workshop activities which are specifically designed to help overcome experience of isolation and to support integration within the community. ASC aims to support the development of keys skills in areas which will build abilities, confidence, and further independence.
The service promotes and develops community connection and integration within the Aberystwyth area.
Activity workshops are held regularly and include:

  • Art groups. These are provided by an experienced Art tutor and allow an opportunity for people of all skills to develop their abilities in a therapeutic atmosphere.
  • Music and Singing Groups. These are delivered by an experienced musician who can help individuals, regardless of ability, to learn new skills in a therapeutic atmosphere.
  • IT workshops. These workshops can help people develop confidence and skills in all aspects of safely using IT. Equipment is provided via a grant from Ceredigion Local Authority.

There is also the availability of walk in. Whilst the service does not provide formal interventions into crisis, service users are provided with the option of contacting the service outside of support times. This would usually be through telephone contact or via email.

We also provide opportunities for volunteering and further peer support. The service recruits volunteers. A culture of providing peer support is also encouraged within the service. Volunteering with the service allows opportunities for service users to play a role within the community and further enhance chances for increased empowerment and independence.

The service is funded by Ceredigion LA.
