About the Project

Funded by the The Vale of Glamorgan Council, the Family Support Service aims to increase the wellbeing of adult unpaid carers who care for family members or loved ones who have been impacted by mental ill-health. Working across The Vale of
Glamorgan, the service aims to increase the independence and empowerment of unpaid carers by offering a twelve-week one-to-one support program alongside monthly peer support groups. Our service aims to support the unpaid carers in our community to improve their overall wellbeing, which is achieved through education, information, support, peer support and well-being activities. This service is crucial as it helps carers manage their roles and maintain their mental and emotional health.

Who do we support?

We offer a twelve-week course of one-to-one support in which we seek to improve the overall wellbeing of the carer through specific interventions. This includes:

  •  Information and advice
  • Emotional Support
  • Signposting and introductions to specific support services
  • Access to Adferiad’s Mental Health and Money Advice

Furthermore, through our monthly groups, we introduce peer support, which fosters a sense of shared experience and provides mutual support. Overall, through our support, we are able to help unpaid carers feel less isolated and alone, and
provide opportunities for wellbeing-focused sessions and education.

Referral

Referrals for one-to-one support are provided by The Vale of Glamorgan Council Carers Support Team, and are for residents of The Vale of Glamorgan who have undergone a Carers Assessment. Our monthly groups are open to any unpaid carer that provides support to anyone impacted by mental illness. If you would like to request more information or to discuss the referral process with us, please get in contact using the details above.
