About the project
Funded by the Vale of Glamorgan Council the Vale Family Support Service aiming to increase the wellbeing of adult carers who’s cared for, family members or loved ones have been impacted by mental ill-health. The service aims to deliver on several fronts listed below, as well as supporting the Local Authority in achieving best practice towards carers.
- Increasing number of Carers Assessments
- Increasing number of reviews of Carers Assessments
- Increasing the social and health wellbeing of carers
- Develop specific information for adult mental health carers
- Support the Local Authority to deliver prudent care
Through 12 weeks of one-to-one support the team seeks to improve the overall wellbeing of carers who access the service through the interventions below.
Including:
- Information and advice
- Adferiads Wellbeing Programme
- Emotional support
- Signposting and introductions to specific support services
- Access to Adferiad’s Mental Health and Money Advice Service
The service works directly with The Vale Council’s Carer Support Team. The service provides monthly carers groups to help carers connect and gain mutual support.
- One is held at The Bridge Between Community Centre in Barry from 11am to 1pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
- The other is held at Chapter Arts in Canton, Cardiff from 11am to 1pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Eligibility / Referral Process
Referrals for one to one support are provided by the Vale Council’s Carer Support Team for residents of the Vale of Glamorgan who have undergone a Carers Assessment.
The carers groups available to any unpaid carer providing support to someone with a mental health illness.
