‘The Vibrant Mind: Exploring Mental Health Through Artistry’ is headed for Swansea’s Grand Theatre for a week-long exhibition on its European tour. The Vibrant Mind is a project committed to empowering individuals living with mental health conditions through the expressive power of art, with all pieces in the exhibition being produced by people with lived experience of mental ill health.
The Gamian-Europe led project is being organised and displayed by Adferiad, with support from Grand Ambition, The Grand Theatre and Swansea Council.
Aiming to foster dialogue, challenge stigmatisation, and promote understanding, the project highlights the complex relationship between art and mental health. The exhibition features a collection of 30 pieces of artwork, specially selected via a combination of a public vote and a jury of art experts, which express each artist’s lived experience with a variety of mental health conditions. Adferiad is especially delighted that work by our own Winston Gomez, Recovery Worker at our Hafan Wen Detox Facility in Wrexham, is part of this special collection.
As a pan-European project, the Vibrant Mind Exhibition is being showcased across the continent in a variety of venues including galleries and patient organisations, having already stopped off in the likes of Helsinki, Brussels, and Athens this summer. This Welsh leg of the tour is an exclusive opportunity for the public to view the collection before it returns to the continent, with the only other UK destination being a private showing in London!
The Vibrant Mind Exhibition will be on display on Swansea’s Grand Theatre’s Rooftop Terrace between the 2nd and 8th of August, with a special launch event being held between 12pm and 2pm on Friday the 2nd of August.
The exhibition is free to attend and open to the public between 10am and 5pm during these dates. Tickets for the launch event can be reserved via Eventbrite The Vibrant Mind Launch Event | Eventbrite
