About the Project

Women’s Gambling Awareness is a community-based project that aims to improve the awareness of gambling treatment support for women and the harm that gambling can cause. We also help reduce the stigma surrounding women’s gambling and support women who may be experiencing gambling harms to have a voice. This is an important service as it helps remove any barriers for women who wish to access treatment and support. It also provides awareness training to community-based professionals, so that they can recognise the signs and symptoms of gambling harms and know what services to signpost to.

Who do we support?

Any female aged 18 and over who discloses they have a gambling addiction will be signposted to a treatment provider of their choice. Professionals who support female clients in the community can access the one-hour free training.

How do we do it?

The cost of gambling harms in Wales is estimated between 40-70 million pounds a year, and it is recognised that fewer women than men access treatment and support for gambling harms. For every person who gambles, up to six people are impacted; this new service will raise awareness for women impacted by gambling harms and give them a sense of hope that recovery is possible. Treatment offered could include community or residential support, depending on the needs of the client.

Referral

The awareness program is for all Wales; any treatment and support will be either provided by  Adferiad or by a National Gambling Support Network provider (NGSN) who we work closely with. The referral form will be completed by one of the project coordinators.

If you would like to request more information or to discuss the referral process with us, please get in contact using the phone or email address above.
