About the Project

Diverse Cymru’s Cultural Competence Certification Scheme is a workplace tool for organisations seeking to develop and implement good practice to ensure that the services they provide are fair and equitable. Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people in the UK face inequalities and disparities that lead to them having poorer life chances in all areas of public life, and we believe that organisations have a key part to play in overcoming these inequalities. The scheme focusses on workplace areas primarily in Wales within organisations to develop their cultural competence and explore the unconscious bias that can lead to unequal treatment. Participants receive ongoing proactive support to complete self-assessment evidence workbook until a level of certification is achieved.

Who do we support?

Scheme participation is open to private, public and third sector organisations. Participants include leading mental health and substance use charities, all health boards in Wales, and local authorities.

How do we do it?

The support we provide is tailored to individual workplace areas within organisations to ensure ownership and accountability. Overall, our service provides practitioners with the tools needed to make certain that their services serve people in an appropriate way, ensuring that whoever comes through their doors is treated with the level of respect and dignity that they deserve. We also ensure that individuals perceive the service that they get is comfortable and is carried out in a way that meets their standards. The reason why this is important is because we have such disparities when it comes to medical and behavioural health services as well as all other public, private and voluntary sector services.

Referral

We work all over Wales, as well as some parts of England including Guernsey. Participants contact us via email, following which we set up a meeting to discuss their needs with them. From there we send them a registration form and start the onboarding process. If you would like to request more information or to discuss the referral process with us, please get in contact using the phone or email address above.
