About the Project
The Carmarthenshire Sanctuary, based in Carmarthen town, serves the whole county of Carmarthenshire. We are an out-of-hours service for anyone over eighteen who is at risk of a mental health crisis. We can offer emotional support either by phone or face-to-face and will be there as a listening ear for individuals to offload. We can offer further support by referring or signposting to other services specific to each individual’s needs. We hope to improve each individual’s mood and wellbeing, lessen hospital admissions, and reduce the risk of harm to people in their homes.
Who do we support?
We support anyone aged 18 or over who may need emotional support with relationship problems, financial worries, domestic violence, loneliness and isolation, stress or anxiety, low mood, bereavement, employment issues, and deteriorating mental health as a result of a range of factors.
How do we do it?
We offer a safe space in a cosy and welcoming environment for users to talk and offload, or simply just to have some quiet time with a cup of tea. We have a range of facilities; for anyone in need of clean clothes and a shower we have facilities to help out, and we can provide a meal or enough supplies to tie an individual over until they can access a food bank, which we can also supply a voucher for. Unlike other evening services, we offer face-to-face support, and individuals’ safety and wellbeing will be fully assessed before they return home, with referrals to other services as appropriate.
