About this Project
CYNNAL is a confidential counselling service for clergy, ministers of religion, Christian workers, and their families. It has bases in Cardiff, Carmarthen and Aberystwyth, but is also available online via Zoom. Our service differs from other counselling services in that it recognises the importance of spirituality and caters to a specific clientele. CYNNAL deals with all manner of problems and takes a holistic approach that addresses the interaction of mind, body, and soul. The service recognises the spiritual dimension of life and, if appropriate, offers signposting for further spiritual guidance.
Who do we support?
Most people who attend our service have an unhealthy attachment to something or other, which tends to define who or what they are and has the power to decide how they feel and think, such as anxiety or low moods. We provide intensive one-to-one counselling, using a variety of evidence-based interventions to help users detach. Further ongoing support is provided through group therapy sessions, both online and hybrid.
How do we do it?
Whilst treatment can play an important role in recovery initiation, a chronic care model is needed to help people find long-term recovery. Our system fulfils this need. Recovery happens in stages – pre-contemplation, contemplation, acceptance, action, and maintenance – with each stage bringing different sets of cognition, attitudes, beliefs, motivation, and behaviours. Based on this model, we provide person-centred approach, targeted to individual needs, depending on what stages they are in. These stages require different types of support, as the individual’s readiness to change.
Referral
Clients need to be aged 18 or older. The only requirement to access CYNNAL help and support is – if you say you’re in recovery or have an interest in recovery.
