Ty Harrington praised as “vital service” by Local Mayor

Ty Harrington has received praise from Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor, Sheryl Evans, on its open day, describing the Mental Health support hub as a “vital service” for her local area.

Both people who use the service and staff attended the hub to celebrate, where it showcased the valuable work Adferiad delivers in Rhondda Cynon Taf, including Cwm Taf Hubs and Supported Living Services.

Councillor Sheryl Evans, the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, attended the event to learn more about some of the vital work provided in the area.

“Thank you for inviting me today. I have had a wonderful day, learning about how Adferiad supports the community alongside the experience you have.

It’s lovely to meet some of your service users here today. I have taken some leaflets and photos to share with my constituents.

I can tell them they can be confident coming to this vital service where they can get any help that they need. There are so many events available for the public, long may it continue.”

Work created by regular attendees was showcased for visitors, demonstrating craft skills, paintings and gardening; all aimed at supporting individuals with their Mental Health.

The environment ensures a safe space, where people can gather in a group setting to support each other and create a close-knit community.

Located in Pentre, the hub also offers a ‘quiet space’ where individuals can visit when in crisis.

Local attendees highlighted the importance such hubs had on their own mental health journeys, supporting their own wellbeing.

Alan has visited the hub for the past 10 years, to assist with his own challenges navigating stress, anxiety and depression.

“I have been coming here for years and we do all kinds of things here from painting to crafts, I have made friends here that I see regularly and spend time with. It’s a close group and I don’t know where I would be without it”

Jason Cockings, Head of Service for Community praised the vital work done by members of local staff, providing mental health support to rural areas of Wales.

“The Cwm Taf hubs, as part of Adferiad’s wider services, are proud to be working within the heart of our communities across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil.

Through a funded partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, we support NHS mental health services by bringing people together who are impacted by and have concerns about their mental health.

Our hubs offer meaningful activities that foster connection, promote wellbeing, and link individuals with local support providers—building stronger, more resilient communities.”
