About the Project
Switch is Adferiad’s children and young persons’ alcohol and drug use service. Our service covers Neath/Port Talbot and offers free and confidential advice, information and support to young people aged 11-25. We also support family members that are affected by a significant others’ substance use. We offer a safe space for young people to speak about any concerns or questions they have with the aim of helping them understand addiction. We want young people to feel they are listened to and are given a say in how they feel about things that affect them. Overall, the Switch service aims to dispel myths and give information in the aim of removing any stigma around services and improving the lives of all involved, helping to improve the communities people live in.
Who do we support?
We support children and young people aged 11-25. We also support family members of all ages who may be struggling with a significant other’s substance use.
How do we do it?
Our service offers a range of interventions, including in person or over-the-phone advice, information and support, and practical support related to education and employment. We also provide a sexual health clinic and referrals to medical interventions, such as prescribing or detox. Furthermore, we hold group activities such as art and youth clubs. Our service also attends schools in the area, delivering education and awareness sessions as well as providing one-to-one in-school support. We are not here to preach, only to provide advice and information to enable you to make safe and informed choices. We can even offer hidden harm support to young people who may have parents or carers who may be using or struggling
with substances.
