About the Project

‘Reachable Moments’ is a new pilot service, covering all Dyfed Powys Police Custody Suites, that has the goal of engaging young people during their waiting time in custody after arrest. The goal is to use this moment of vulnerability and reflection as an opportunity to redirect young people away from future criminal behaviour and towards healthier life choices. We will be offering emotional support and guidance, and connecting them to longer-term services.

Who do we support?

We will be supporting young people aged 17 and under during a critical period: while they are in police custody. The Reachable Moments Worker (RMW) will be a first responder to requests from police custody staff, attending custody suites to provide immediate, compassionate, and targeted support.

How do we do it?

We will have a cohort of fully-trained Reachable Moment Workers, who will work on an on-call basis. Each RMW will undertake an assessment with the young person and identify individual risk and needs, which will formulate their care plan. The RMW will have a wealth of knowledge and interventions to engage young people in different ways, in order to build rapport and trust.

Referral

A RMW will be contacted as soon as a young person, under 18 years old, who enters a DPP custody suite.
