About the project

This is a commissioned service and funded by Cardiff/Vale Local Authority and aims to increase the social and health wellbeing of adult carers who’s cared for are eligible for secondary mental health services. The service aims to deliver on several fronts listed below, as well as support Cardiff Local Authority in achieving best practice in its legal duties towards carers.

•Increased numbers of Carers Assessments
•Increased number of reviews of Carers Assessments
•Increased social and health wellbeing of carers eligible referred to service
•Increased opportunities for carers to become involved in co-production of services
•Develop specific information for adult mental health carers
•Support Cardiff Local Authority deliver prudent care.

The service is based in all 5 Community Mental Health Teams in Cardiff and Barry Hospital in the Vale and aims to deliver an equitable service to all carers the service can also receive referrals from the Forensic Team and Neurodevelopmental Team. The service also provides a monthly carers group which is held at Chapter Arts in Canton.

Eligibility / Referral Process

Residents of Cardiff who have had a carers assessment by the Local Authority.
