About the Project
Amser supports unpaid carers to access personalised, flexible and creative short breaks. It will provide breaks that improve carer resilience and wellbeing and support the sustainability of the carer’s caring relationship. Amser, Welsh for ‘time’, is part of the Short Breaks Scheme for unpaid carers and aims to enable 30,000 carers to take a break from caring by 2025.
Who do we support?
Adferiad delivers Amser breaks to adult carers of people with mental health needs who live in Bridgend, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Monmouthshire, Pembrokeshire, Vale of Glamorgan, Wrexham and Anglesey.
How do we do it?
Amser grants give carers the opportunity to prioritise their wellbeing and take time away from their caring role. Over the last year, grants awarded have included spa days, National Trust membership, theatre trips and pottery workshops. Staff report that having the grant is a huge benefit for carers. It allows us to offer carers a much-needed break when they are struggling or exhausted. Carers often feel there is no help available, so when we can offer this grant, it makes a huge difference to them.
