Adferiad Recovery to launch Enfys – a new counselling service for healthcare workers.

Adferiad Recovery to launch Enfys – a new counselling service for healthcare workers.

In light of the increased pressures being faced by those in the medical profession as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new counselling service is being launched in Wales to support healthcare workers struggling with mental health issues, alcohol, substance misuse or other harmful behaviours. The Enfys service will formally be launched on 1 June 2021 through an online event hosted via Zoom.

Healthcare workers are a population disproportionately at risk of developing addiction disorders and poor mental health, which is cause for concern following a turbulent year for the sector. Enfys will offer confidential counselling packages tailored to the needs of the individual as well as being able to provide support to their partners and families. The aim is to provide ongoing support and aftercare that will help healthcare professionals who are struggling with addiction or mental health issues to sustain lasting changes in their lives. The service will be managed by Adferiad Recovery and available throughout Wales.

Alun Thomas, Chief Executive of Adferiad Recovery, said: “We are delighted to launch this vital new service which will provide much-needed support for health workers in Wales.

“Health workers are used to working under pressure but in the past year COVID-19 has put an even greater strain on their lives. Their service during the pandemic has been invaluable, so we are immensely proud to be able to offer them a flexible and timely new counselling service.

“Enfys will provide ongoing support to health workers who are at risk of developing addiction disorders and poor mental health, giving them the opportunity to achieve recovery and lasting change.

“This will benefit not only the individuals concerned but also healthcare in Wales as a whole.”

Wynford Ellis Owen, Specialist Counselling Consultant at Adferiad Recovery, added, “We’re in a privileged position to be able to help the helper, and to offer him or her the same support and care that they’ve so selflessly offered others.

“Enfys utilises a broad-based approach to recovery – using a range of approaches and therapies which gives people greater scope to achieve a lasting recovery. Enfys puts you in the driving seat; you get to drive your own recovery bus – we sit on the back seat, pay for the petrol, and come along for the ride. And what a ride it is! The most exhilarating journey known to mankind – a journey of self-discovery”.
