Providing small grants and financial support to unpaid carers across Gwent.


Who we support

We support unpaid carers of all ages across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, and Torfaen, including young carers, parent carers, partner carers, sibling carers, and friend carers.


How we do it

The service provides small grants to support unpaid carers with essential items, transport, skills development, and respite opportunities. Households can apply for up to £700 over a 12-month period, with applications accepted every 6 months across different grant categories. The Grant scheme can only provide a certain number of grants per month; therefore, there is often a waiting list in operation for Small Grants.

Grant categories include:

  • Carers Access – support with transport costs, including driving lessons 
  • Carers Essentials – support towards household equipment 
  • Carers Skills – funding for courses, training, hobbies, or returning to work 
  • Carers Time Out – support for short breaks and respite opportunities 

This guidance must be read before completing an application form. Small Grants are not emergency grants; therefore, urgent requests cannot be accommodated.

Referral

Carers can apply directly through self-referral and do not need to be involved with Social Services or the Health Board. Professionals and support services can also help carers access the scheme. Click here to access the application form.
