Tony, Alvin, Paul and Roger take on Lands’ End-John O’Groats cycle to fundraise for CAIS!

On 19th September, the fab team of Tony Carter, Alvin Jones, Paul Turton and Roger Hughes will be taking on a phenomenal 900+ mile cycle from Lands’ End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland to raise money for CAIS.

Tony, Alvin, Paul and Roger have known each other and trained together for many years and have accomplished amazing challenges, races and events in the past.

This year they have kindly chosen to raise vital funds for CAIS to help the charity to continue to provide expert personal support services in Wales.

Ahead of the fundraising cycle, Roger said: “Once we decided that this year’s challenge would be a big one, we thought it would be a good idea to do a fundraiser. We were sure we’d get some good support and we were right with already raising almost £2500 prior to starting the event.

“We wanted to choose a local charity to ensure that 100% of the funds went to good use. So we thought we’d do it for CAIS and the deciding factor was that we have experience of people close to us that have had help from CAIS in the past so we wanted to give something back.”

This monumental cycle from the bottom to the top of the whole UK is particularly inspiring with Tony doing this following cancer treatment and operations.

Roger adds: “Tony has always been a fighter and an extremely good cyclist. He’s pushed himself over the years to be the best he could be but this diagnosis hit him and his family hard.

“Then he underwent treatment and operations to remove the cancer – thankfully this was a success. During this time, Tony asked us all if we’d be interested in doing the challenge. Of course, we all said yes instantly. We would be able to train together, support each other and all get to ride a big event again together.

“For Tony, this would be something that would help get him through his recovery and keep him positively focused.

“The four of us have always been competitive with each other which helps us to train and push harder. I personally couldn’t think of a better bunch of lads to be doing this challenge with. There will be highs and for sure there’ll be lows, there’ll be banter and arguments but in the end we’ll get each other through it like we’ve always done.”

We’d like to wish Tony and everyone all the very best on their epic challenge and send a huge thank you for raising money for CAIS.
